‘ I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart the Pink Lady Food photography Competition 2017 and the BBC Good Food Fresh Talent Awards for giving me this opportunity and being among the best of the world in the food photography and food styling world. It’s a hard competition out there and being among the finalists makes me feel so proud and so determined to accomplish so much more for me and my Countries, Greece & Cyprus where good food is part of our inheritance and culture’
On the 17th of February 2017, I was sitting in the foyer of a cozy little theatre in Alkminis street in Athens waiting to watch a theater show, starring the man I was secretly in love with, for the past few months.
Being invited by him and meeting him for the first time after all those months, I thought that being there was the happiest day and night, of my entire life.
When I first saw him earlier that evening, I thought I have seen the most beautiful man of my life. He was so good looking, powerful and flawless and so ‘real’ that I couldn’t believe I was seeing him live at last. I was really in love and really admire that man from the bottom of my heart and I couldn’t wait to see him performing live, for the first time in my life and then go to dinner together.
We walked in the theatre together and everybody there, including fans and other actors, were admiring us (or were jealous of us) but I felt so proud to be next to him, that nothing matter around me. I remember him kissing me sweet on my cheeks and leaving me in the foyer, to head backstage and prepare for his role.
I felt like flying in the sky and my happiness and excitement was unconceivable by human mind, feeling the luckiest woman on the planet. I was in love and I was with him!
While I was sitting there, waiting for the theatrical to begin, I have decided to check my social media and mails for a quick moment, secretly hoping to receive a mail , that I never thought I deserved to receive and it was already so late that gave up any hope. It was the last day to announce the results plus it was 10pm!
And as I was scrolling on my phone, I saw the mail!!!!
It was the confirmation that I was a finalist at the BBC Fresh Talent Award for the Pink Lady Food Photography Competition 2017 and I should be in London the next few days for an Interview at the BBC Studios!!!!
My Greek Cheese pie, with feta cheese, phyllo pastry and pure greek olive oil was one of the finalists photos for the category of the BBC FRESH TALENT AWARD AWARDS 2017 and the only one in the BREAKFAST CATEGORY.
There, I felt more complete than ever in my life.
The 17th of February, 2017 was the happiest day of my entire life.
I had been through a lot of ups and especially downs in the last 4 years of my life and that night was definitely a reward with the strongest doses of happiness.
I know that happiness is nothing but moments but it didn’t matter. Those were the most happy moments of my life!
I had dinner afterwards with him and 2 days after I flew to London for my interview. And the moments of happiness continued and became moments, days and years of proudness.
I got to realize that, when you believe in yourself, only the sky is the limit. I only started this job as a hobby 4 years ago and most of all, I am a self-taught photographer and stylist. I learned to shoot photos on my own. I have taken thousands and thousands of bad photos before I develop and evolve as a food photographer. I spent hours in the internet to learn and by taking 2 on-line courses, I managed to learn something more than I already knew.
And I love what I am doing every minute and every day of my life.
My passion is my alarm clock. My passion for this job, guides me all the way and every day of my life. I passed through 2 operations on my shoulders the last 3 years of my life, resulting to a break for six months for each operation, but I didn’t give up! I passed through 2 breaks from 2 relationships but it kept me going. I have lost potential customers and I gained new ones, that we became best friends. I met excellent people, I got congratulations from complete strangers and got copied by some very famous names in the food industry. But it was all part of the process, part of the game, part of my trip, all the way to my Ithaca.
My Ithaca is to be as well-known as possible on an International level.
My Ithaca is to win the Pink Lady Food Photography Competition one day and hopefully via the BBC Fresh Talent award.
My Ithaca is to inspire young and older people to believe in their selves no matter what, to follow their dreams, to achieve their goals.
Self-taught or professionals, we can be winners, as long as we believe in ourselves.
Because the winners are those who believe in their selves.
And they love what they are doing, everyday of their life and are rewarded with endless moments of happiness.
‘Because the only limits we have, are the limits we believe…!!!’
